The thought symbol was invented, as most things, out of necessity. Circa the summer of 1999, I was writing in condensation on the shower door. I needed to write the word thought, but I ran out of room. I used a cursive, lowercase “t” as a placeholder and from then on I began using that symbol for thought. The earliest record I have, in which I clearly used the thought symbol, is a computer file of a scanned document. The computer file shows a last modified date of August 16th, 1999. After using a hand drawn version for several years, I discovered the parts of the thought symbol can be created with mathematical equations. Finally, in November 2006, I used existing images and a drawing program to create the current version of the thought symbol.
